Creation Stations at the ready!
This week we have been setting up a range of stations to focus on creative skills. We have looked at drawing skills (animals & people) with a focus on the artist, Paul Klee. We have also been sketching; making sculptures from paper; printing with textiles and other materials. It has been a very fun week! In Maths we have been focusing on shapes, their names and properties. Children have been using these shape names in their creations as well as during activities such as hammer boards (with 2d shapes), geoboards and tessellating shapes.
Following our Eat them to Defeat them Week, we are having a big boost on our ‘Healthy Schools’ procedures. First, the children have loved this week and ‘defeating their veg’ and we will continue to promote this through stickers and rewards at lunchtimes. Secondly, this would be a great time to analyse what is going in your child’s lunch box. Could their sandwiches be on brown bread, is the content of their sandwich ‘healthy’? Could fruit bars be swapped for a piece of fruit or vegetables?
Birthdays: Please do not bring in sweets or cakes to hand out on your child’s birthday. This causes all sorts of problems such as dietary issues, parents not being in control of how much sugar their children are getting, some parents feeling the pressure to provide these even if they can’t afford it. We have had a big influx of parents bringing in treats especially in Kites, we would very much appreciate your support by no longer distributing edible treats on the playground.
Next week we will be continuing with creativity in painting and completing our Spring display as well as getting ready for our Earth’s Trust trip and talking about using our senses to spot signs of Spring.
Phonics:Learning to blend activity
cvc word time to practice reading
Trickier challenge words ONLY for those who are confident in their reading
Challenge: Can you go on a Spring walk (perhaps somewhere new?) and see if you can spot some signs that Spring is on its way? Use this helpful Spring Checklist if you would like.
Reminders:
- Baby photos: Please could you send in a baby photo of your child for us to explore the change in ourselves over years. This can either be put in their book bag or emailed to the school office. We had a few at the start of the school year, but we would love one from everyone to use for our STEM topic (starting on 24th).
- Eat Them To Defeat Them: To zoom in on our ‘Healthy Schools’ and ‘Sustainable school’ focus, we have been participating in a new campaign Eat Them To Defeat Them. This was introduced in our KS1 assembly this week and children have a poster to complete for every fruit or vegetable they manage to “defeat”. Please help to support this at home by introducing more fruit and vegetables to your child and encouraging them to play, smell, explore and hopefully eat them.
- School Trip : Tuesday 18th March. Thank you to the adults who have offered. Please ensure your payment of £14 has been received by the office- this includes coach and packed lunch as well as entry and full day of activities. School uniform required and a warm coat. Suitable footwear- wellies or trainers. Packed lunch and snack provided. Please ensure your child has a named water bottle. Weather looks good, but will still be a bit chilly!
- Red Nose Day: Friday 21st March. Please wear one red item. Design a red outfit for Rhubarb competition.
- Parents Evening: April 1st and 3rd 4-7pm
- End of term: End of Term 4, school finishes at 1.15pm
- Easter Egg Hunt: Easter Trail returns on Friday 25th April, starting on the KS1 playground after school. Tickets are £3.50 per child and must be purchased by 3rd April on MCAS.
We hope you have a restful weekend and appreciate your continued support.
The Kites Team.
