Kung hei fat choi 2025 Kites’ Parents!
This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year and Buddhism. We have been dressing up, making Chinese lanterns, masks, snakes, bookmarks with Chinese symbols, writing our numbers in Chinese as well as the practising the art of using chopsticks. The children had a go at origami which led to some floating and sinking experiments. To complete our week, the children did some delicious Chinese food tasting including: gyoza, noodles and seaweed. The children have done a super job at retelling The Great Race; learning words such as Zodiac, emperor, lunar New Year and ‘Kung hei fat choi’.
In Maths we have been using number lines to find one more and one less as well as revising pairs to 5 & 10 and writing number sentences. Using counting rhymes, ten town and frogs on logs. The children have been finding a number and identifying the former and following numeral. We have been using Fred the Frog to jump up and down the number line.
Phonics: Please help your child to access these videos:Learning to blend – Some children are still struggling with their blending. Sounding out (Fred talk) the words and getting your child to say them will really help with the reading process.Speed sounds- For a quick revision of some sounds the children SHOULD already know
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be focusing on storytelling for National Storyteller’s Week. The children will be learning the skills associated with story-telling and having a try on their own through group stories, drama, puppetry and Helicopter Stories. We will be problem-solving through stories in maths, writing books, creating story maps and using tales toolkit to learn the key ingredients of a good story. We are also inviting parents in, so if you are keen to come in to tell a story (wigs and props welcome!) then please let us know at drop-off and we will timetable you in!
Evidence Me– we are starting to get to grips with our new recording system. Please let a member of Kites team know if you have still been unable to access the learning journal.
Challenge: Can you help your child make up/ retell a story or create a simple story map for Show and Tell this week? You can video & send via the office, if they would prefer not to show it in person.
