Dear Parents,
This week we had some surprise guests arrive in our Kites class; these little elves came through the post and brought with them a book called the Kindness Elves. Since then, we have been given some special kindness tasks to do as a class and it has helped us think about the choices we make towards our friends. Our focus continues to be looking at Christmas around the World. The children have been using atlases and Google Earth to find Australia, Germany, Ethiopia and Italy. We have been discussing how we would get to those places from Oxfordshire and what transport would be suitable. The children have been designing Surfboards for surfing Santas, making shoes for St Nikolaus and singing different songs from around the world. On Thursday we were fortunate to welcome Mrs Bray who came to tell us all about Christmas in Italy (her home country). We sang her the Italian song we have been learning and she was very impressed.
In Phonics, we have been reviewing set 1 sounds and in practising special friends sh, ch, th, ff, ll and ss. Below are some links to practice reading special friends ‘th’ and word time (reading and spelling words).
In Maths, we have been focusing on creating Number lines in groups and also using our own individual number lines, focusing on number formation and order. We have explored finding one more than a number, finding the number and jumping forwards one space on a number line to find one more than. We have continued to match Numicon to numerals to familiarise with what a numeral is worth. At home, you could practice rolling a dice and writing that number and then finding one more or one less than a number.
We have continued to learn our Christmas songs and lines for our Christmas performance on 18th December.
Thank you all for signing up to parent consultations. to all parents who have filled in the Kites questionnaire so far, if you haven’t done so already please fill it in (using the link emailed to you) as it will help us to know the areas we may need to improve for next year. Thank you again!
Challenge (to share in Show and Tell): Next week, we will continue to look at Christmas Around the World. Can you find out how another country celebrates Christmas and have a chat with your child about how it compares to your Christmas. Or could you share a special tradition that you have in your household (a written note/ picture would be lovely!)?
