Sonning Common Primary School

Policy on the Use of Private Tuition and Tutors

Background

This policy has been developed to ensure a consistent approach from SCPS in the event that parents, pupils or other interested parties express a wish to undertake extracurricular tuition. The policy in no way endorses the concept of private tuition, nor any suppliers of such tuition.

SCPS Policy

1.    Sonning Common Primary School will provide a high quality education for all pupils in a caring and nurturing environment.

2.    The education offers richness an variety of experience.

3.    The objective is that all pupils realise their potential, whatever that may be.

4.    However, the school recognises that in a few cases parents or carers may wish to utilise additional tuition through private provision.

5.    To meet this need the school maintains a short list of suppliers who have provided evidence of suitable qualifications and experience and who having agreed to liaise with the school to ensure that extracurricular tuition complements the school teaching programme.

6.    The presence of a tutor on the list does not in any way constitute recommendation or endorsement of the tutor by SCPS. SCPS believes that the needs of pupils are best served by the school and its’ staff.

7.    The list of tutors will be reviewed and updated annually.

8.    Any arrangements between parents/carers and private tutors is entirely at the parents expense and risk.
