POLICY STATEMENT ON ADMISSION
Sonning Common Community School serves the Sonning Common village catchment area. School starters from inside and outside the Sonning Common catchment area are processed through the Oxfordshire Admissions Office, places permitting.
Children who come from other schools during years 1 to 6 transfer only after proper consultation with the headteacher of the school they currently attend.
The school admits children as four pluses at the beginning of each academic year.
Children will be admitted in the September of the year they are 5 if the parents wish it.
Children become full time in the term after their fifth birthday.
The school’s admission number is 50 but more children will be admitted by agreement (see below).
Applications to the school are give priority as listed below:
1. Children resident within the catchment area
2. Brothers and sisters of children already in attendance at the school
3. Children of members of staff
4. Children from outside the catchment area on the basis of addresses nearest the school
When there are more than 50 applications for admission to the school or if there is an issue with an application a committee consisting of the headteacher, a parent governor and one other member of the governing body will convene to advise the best course of action.
Appeals can be made to the local authority by parents if they wish to do so.
