Parent survey results

Thank you to all parents that completed the parent survey regarding the start of the academic year. We appreciate feedback as we always strive to improve and hope to make the transition to school even smoother for next year’s Kites. Below, are the answers to some of the queries that some of you had.

PE kit

The Kites handbook will be updated with more information about PE kit and Forest Camp kit. Although children only have Forest Camp once in a fortnight, we advise parents to leave welly boots at school on the welly boot stands provided as we learn outside too (no matter what the weather!).

Reading

We feel that the children are making excellent progress with reading and phonics. Unfortunately, it is impossible to give you an exact date for when Read Write Inc reading books start to come home as children progress as different rates and can only bring these home when they reach the required standard. Therefore, we send home other reading stage books so that children can still put their phonics knowledge into practise.

We hope that the flashcards that were sent home were useful. If you would like to buy the official cards, they are available on the internet (we found them on Amazon).

Reading records are checked every Friday when books are changed and any comments requiring attention are passed on to the teachers. Staff read with the children at least once a week and this is recorded on separate sheets and progress is tracked using Learning Book.

Information on topics and Show and Tell is on the website. This is updated weekly so that you know what the children will be learning about and what they should bring in for Show and Tell.

Challenge books

We are glad that so many of your children are completing the challenges in their challenge books. As they complete them, it is useful for us to have a post it note stuck on the book so that we then know to check it. We will then award team points if your child can complete the challenge.

Parent consultations

Several of you have suggested that the date of the first parent consultation meeting be moved forwards. Although the dates for next year’s parent consultations have already been set, we are always happy to meet with parents to discuss children’s progress at school.

Thank you again for the feedback given and we hope that this also answers any questions that you still had.

Regards,

The Kites team
