To celebrate the successes this season of our boys’ and girls’ football teams, we invited England U17s World Cup winner Danny Loader to talk to the teams at assembly time today.

The children watched a short presentation of Danny’s goals at the tournament in India last month, and some highlights of the final, in which England defeated Spain 5-2 to lift the trophy for the first time.

The children then engaged in a lively Q&A, with lots of questions for Danny, including his favourite teams and players, but also his motivations for playing football, and how he started out with Caversham Trents FC and Wycombe, before moving on to Reading and England.  The children also got to see Danny’s winner’s medal and a match shirt signed by the triumphant England squad.
