We have been subtracting using multiples of 10′s in maths. We continue to write our story and making our own story books. In science this week we are looking at healthy living and have designed a healthy meal. We discussed how to look after our teeth properly and we are cleaning them everyday in school. We have also learnt about bacteria and germs, some can be harmful, others are safe bacteria. We are growing fungi and bacteria in agae jelly to see how it grows. We scraped the palm, inbetween our fingers and the tips of our fingers and put it onto the jelly. Lastly not least an exciting Friday with Mrs Walmsley’s class doing a mad dance for comic relief we manged to raise £26.49 by going round the classrooms and showing them the dance.

Hello!!

Over the past few weeks we have been having more fun with fairy tales. We wrote letters from the Billy Goats, police reports by Baby Bear and our own versions of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Spellings have changed! We will now be giving new spellings out on a Monday and testing them on a Friday! Please practice them with your children.
We have also been covering many activities in maths, looking at time, 3D shape and block/bar graphs.

Today has been World Book Day and we have seen some lovely costumes in Year 2! From Alice in Wonderland to Horrid Henry, we have had them all!

We are looking forward to another fun week next week!

Regards;

Welcome back! be it a bit late, apologies!
MATHS:
We have been covering times tables 2, 5, 10. We have been learning our number bonds to 10, 20, and 100 and we have also been learning to add 3 single digit numbers. The children have been having great fun through playing games and challenges in their maths groups.
ENGLISH:
We began the term by looking at The Magic Box poem by Kit Wright, where the children explored what they would like to put in their box. Then we wrote shape poems the following week.
We have started our topic fairy tales and the children are very excited! The children are designing a powerpoint which will be presented to the class at the end of term. We aim to have a fairy tale day and we will notify you of when this day is. In the meantime we continue to have fun and do lots of learning. If you wish to support your child’s learning, you can do every day maths ( spending money at the shop,quick times tables) regular reading and practice the spellings that they will be tested on at the end of the week.

Hello all;

Year 2 have had a fabulous time over the last two days experiencing some Edwardian activities. Thank you so much to everyone who provided the costumes, they were great!
The children looked brilliant and thoroughly enjoyed lessons such as chanting the times tables, copying sentences from the board and other exciting Edwardian activities…!
In the afternoons the children got to experience other more practical aspects of Edwardian education. The girls did a fantastic job of sewing their names and a pattern and the boys made some fabulous pottery!
Thank you again for all your effort!

Regards;
Mr Coates and Mrs Walmsley.

Mr Coates’ and Mrs Walmsley’s classes are on the hunt for some old t-shirts to use for painting aprons as this joyfully creative time of year draws near. If anyone has an old, unwanted t-shirt it would be greatly appreciated if we could use it so the children’s pristine uniforms remain nice for the new year!

There will also be no more spellings till the new year!

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello all;
Year two Nativity play rehearsals are going well. The times and dates for the play will be…

Tuesday 18th December at 1:45.

Wednesday 19th December at 9:30.

Mums bring your tissues!!

We have costumes for most of the children, though letters will be going home to those children who we don’t have anything for!

The children were brilliantly behaved for our trip to Windsor Castle last week. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day (if a bit soggy). Everyone really enjoyed themselves, so much so we have been writing recounts all week about it!

In maths we have been looking at money and making various amounts of money. Please give your children as many opportunities to use money in everyday situations! We have also been collecting data, children have had immense fun asking various classes what their favourite animals is, what their favourite ice cream is and so on. They have been collecting their answers using tallys and making graphs with the results.

Regards;

Mr Coates and Mrs Walmsley.
