Hello,
We are planning on desgining and constructing Egyptian coffins (from cardboard) for a Design and Technology project. So if you have any cardboard boxes or thick(ish) sheets of cardboard lying around the house, or poking out from the recycling bin, then please bring them in.

by Year Three teacher on January 27, 2012

We tried this in class on the minis but some minis froze on us so we didn’t manage to finish the whole process of mummification. Follow this link to launch the mummy builder – show your parents. It’s amazing!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/interactive/games/mummy_maker/index_embed.shtml
Also try pyramid builder: www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/egyptians/launch_gms_pyramid_builder.shtml

Swimming

by Year Three teacher on January 19, 2012

There appears to have been some confusion over swimming this week.
Both classes were told that because Mrs Ashton’s class missed their swimming session last week (due to Egyptian Day) that they would be swimming today (19th).

So now the timetable is:
19/1 – Mrs A
26/1 – Miss O
2/2 – Mrs A
8/2 – Miss O

Half Term Holiday

23/2 – Mrs A
1/3 – Miss O

and so on.

REMEMBER – if in doubt bring your swimming kit!!!

:)

TALKS

by Year Three teacher on January 18, 2012

The theme of our talks this term is “How to ……” which involves instruction of how to do something or make something or perform something. You can choose what to do eg How to bake a cake; how to perform a skill – football, gymnastics or otherwise; how to draw something; how to make origami, a paper aeroplane, a lego object, a craft object, a shape or anything which springs to mind. Remember that your talk should be no longer than 3 minutes and the emphasis is on giving instructions, so it will involve a logical progression of points, statements of what to do in steps. You should have the completed example and show the stages of development. Your timeslots will be allocated shortly. If you have any queries, please see your teacher.
Regards,
Year 3 teachers

Parent Consultation

by Year Three teacher on January 17, 2012

Dear parents, Parent consultation is coming up at the end of this term – on Friday 10th February. You will shortly be receiving a timeslot. However, some parents have difficulty taking time off work etc. so year 3 teachers are going to be available some evenings during that week if you would prefer. Mrs Ashton and Miss Ough are available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening. Please see us individually to sign up to your preferred time. If you cannot come and see us, please send a letter with your child giving 3 time preferences. We shall confirm all time slots in due course.

Many thanks

Miss Ough and Mrs Ashton

The Egyptians

by Year Three teacher on January 16, 2012

What a fantastic topic we are studying – and there’s so much to learn. The children are so excited about the Egyptians, I’m sure you’ve heard. Anyway, this week we are looking at the pyramids and their construction. The children can glean such a lot from pictures and videos. However, we are unable to show youtube videos in school and most of the Egyptian clips are on you tube – so if you have a moment, please google: inside the pyramids and take a look at images and videos. They are fascinating! Also, a good website is www.eyelid.co.uk/pyramid3.htm.
