Mrs Harris, Mrs Ashton, Mrs Room

I have had the best Thursday morning for a very long time. The children in my class are absolutely amazing.

I am touched by the effort made to make me feel like a queen and I most certainly did. Thank you all and special thanks to Mrs Ashton for her tremendous effort with help from Mrs Room. The entertainment was wonderful, such talented children – fabulous.

I would also like to thank the wonderful parents who all contributed food and a special thank you for my huge plant. I appreciate the thoughtful gifts.

The only downside to this is that I do have to work hard in my garden now but hey, I have nothing to do come September! Again heartfelt thanks.

Val Harris

This is Year Three’s contribution to encouraging the England team in their World Cup quest. The children have enjoyed recording at least five separate parts, which have then been mixed on to each other, together with the backing track, to give the final effect. This helps us to address the ’sound’ unit of our ICT curriculum. The whole class has contributed to this (quite complicated) song, but special mention must go to Jade, Kittie, Jack U and Bradley for the solo verses, and to Brad and Jack for the famous rap section. See if you can spot a (distorted) Jake begging the team to score!

A speaker from the Oxford Synagogue came to talk to both year 3 classes about Judaism on Monday.

The children were very interested in seeing and hearing about Jewish life. Mrs Azaz was impressed about how knowledgeable the children were and their thoughtful contributions.

Well done Year 3 and Mrs Room who has been preparing them for the visit.

There will not be specific sets of spellings to be learnt this term. Instead, teachers will work on applying some of the rules already learnt (for example in choosing prefixes and suffixes for words), and will use short dictations to test both spellings and grammar fundamentals.

This is a combined recording of Old MacDonald (the boys), and What you got (the girls), recorded by the class and produced and mixed by Isobel, Emily W and Amber as part of our ICT ’sound’ topic.

The children have really enjoyed trying out this classic from the 70s, and experimenting with recording different harmonies and mixing them together. The backing vocals ‘bright…sunshiny day’ were recorded separately from the main theme, and mixed in later. The children have learned about the recording process, and experimented with different volumes and mix levels for the different parts.
