Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Sonning Common Primary children take part in a number of local sporting competitions throughout the year. Here are some of their recent sucesses.

Year 3/4 Boys’ Indoor Football

Cranford House 1-8 Sonning Common

On Monday 20th November a year 3/4 boys’ football team travelled to Cranford House to play a friendly. We started very well and raced into a 3-0 lead, Will H-K scoring twice and Tommy scoring the third. Before we knew it we were 5-0 up, with another goal from Will and one from Matthew. Will H-K scored another two either side of Cranford House pulling a goal back, before Ernie N rounded off the scoring just before the end.

An excellent performance!

The team was: Will H-K, Ernie N, Tommy H, Matthew B, Oskar G, William S, Cian I, James H, and Alfie D.

Y6 Carslaw Cup Football

Stanford-in-the-Vale 2-6 Sonning Common

On Wednesday 22nd the Year 6 football team made the long trip to Stanford-in-the-Vale for our second Carslaw Cup match. After a fairly even start, Stanford broke the deadlock with a close range finish. We equalised after a good run and cross from Lucas found Joe M to tap in at the back post. We were soon 2-1 up after a good finish from Lucas. Stanford then forced home and equaliser before another goal from Joe M saw us go in 3-2 up at half time. We came out for the second half and immediately extended our lead with a great header from Joe M to complete his hat trick. With Stanford beginning to tire, we kept going forward and further goals followed from Lucas and Louie to round off the scoring. Another excellent performance and we continue our 100% start to our cup fixtures.

The team was: Freddie S, Joe W, Will J, Ben A, Rory C, Louie S, Max H, Lucas T, Joe M, Kaspar G, Tyler O’B and Leyton E.

Year 5/6 Girls’ 7 a side Football League

Sonning Common 7-0 Carswell

On Monday 9th October, the Sonning Common year 5/6 girls’ put in a fantastic performance to record our first ever win in a girls’ league competition. A first half hat trick from Millie B, combined a superb team effort, saw the girls go in 3-0 up at half time. The girls continued their excellent performance into the second half, with Amelia S making some great saves in goal to help us keep a clean sheet. Millie went on to score two more goals to make the score 5-0, before one goal each from Kimberley E and Gemma P made the final score 7-0 to us. A superb performance and effort all round, well done girls!

The team was: Amelia S, Neve B, Alicia B, Kimberley E, Alice K, Gemma P, Millie B, Anna W, August B, Charley L and Harriet M.

Wantage 2-1 Sonning Common

On Wednesday 11th October, the year 5/6 girls’ football team made the trip to Wantage for their second game of the league season. To their amazement, the pitch was on a slope and the grass was very long. To their credit, the girls adjusted to this quickly and were unlucky to go in 1-0 down at half time. Not long into the second half, Millie B equalised to make it 1-1. With the game nearing an end, and both teams going for the win, it was Wantage who popped up with the winning goal. Another fantastic effort from the girls, and with 5 games left there is a long way to in the league season.

The team was: Amelia S, Neve B, Alicia B, Gemma P, Kimberley E, Alice K, Millie B, August B and Anna W.
