The choir have a fantastic opportunity this year to sing with lots of other schools at a big venue. We will be a part of the concert at the O2 on Wednesday 12th January 2011. The concert series is called Young Voices 2010 and more information about it can be found on the website: www.youngvoices.co.uk.

We welcome new choir members but it is possible that not all will want or be able to go to the concert. They will all be able to perform at the School Christmas fair even if they do not come to the concert.

We have asked the children to think about whether they can commit to learning the words and songs and attending all rehearsals before we give out more information packs. We expect the children to learn the words and practise the songs at home before choir rehearsals commence in 3 or 4 weeks’ time.

Mr Loader will be talking to all potential new choir members on Thursday 9th September after assembly. He’s running the choir whilst Mrs Humm is absent from school.

Welcome back to a brand new school year. We hope that you all had a great summer holiday and are looking forward to everything that this year is going to offer.

We’re especially pleased to welcome four new teachers: Mrs Barton, Mr Coates, Miss Ough and Mrs Walmsley and a number of new children to our school.

You may notice some changes over the next few days – new playground markings, a new gate and some new equipment in the hall. We’re very thankful to Mr Butler, our caretaker, who’s coordinated all of this during the holidays.

We’ve already got a huge number of activities and trips planned for this year; if you haven’t yet done so, head over to the calendar and check them out.

We hope you are all enjoying your holidays. If you would like something to occupy you, especially on those few wet days we seem to be having recently, here is something we really need you to help us with. Each year our school is invited to provide a display for the Food and Farming marquee at the Henley Show which, this year, is on Saturday 11th September. We have decided to use the theme of tractors and other farm machinery and will be doing some activities for this at the beginning of term. We would like you to draw or make a model of a tractor or other farm vehicle/machine or take a photograph of one. If you have been on a farm visit during the summer and have any photos from your visit these would be lovely too. You can either bring the photos to school or email them to mlovegrove@sonningcommonprimary.co.uk. Drawings, paintings and models can be brought into school at any time until Wednesday September 8th. These activities are open to children in all year groups.
