Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Book Sale and Library News

The Book People (well-known for supplying heavily discounted books by mail order) are branching out into school book fairs, and we have been invited to try one. It will be delivered next Thursday, so will be open after school on Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Monday 18th September – hopefully in the playground (or in the ICT suite if wet) Come along and try it, and let me know what you think. I’m hoping it will be a bit different from the Scholastic/Travelling Books Fairs which we usually have.

The ‘Animal Agents’ Summer Reading Challenge has not finished just because all the children have returned to school. They have another couple of weeks to finish their 6 books, visit the library several times, collect their stickers, certificates and rewards. We look forward to seeing them!

The closing date for the FoSCL Short Story Competition has been extended to 23rdSeptember, so if anyone is a budding Roald Dahl and has a story to tell, type it up and send it to sonningcommon.library@oxfordshire.gov.uk . For more information about the competiton contact the library.

Friends of Sonning Common Library (FoSCL) are organising a quiz for the start of National Libraries Week (7th-14th October), on Friday 6th October in the village hall. It will be £20 for a team (maximum of 6 people) Book your table beforehand as space is limited.

As part of National Libraries Week local authors Tom Fort and Vera Morris will be talking about ‘A Writer’s Life’ at a meeting in the library on Tuesday 10th. Tickets are £5 (to include a glass of wine or soft drink), and are available from the library or Occasions (Booking needed as numbers are limited)
